The August 2020 Recap | Say hello to aliterarylatte.com (?!)

At this point I might as well already be saying Merry Christmas to you all because WHERE IS THIS YEAR GOING?!
It might be August but I’m still in May to be honest with you. And somehow semi in September because I’m sat here with my tea and it’s drizzling outside (so I’m just British really).

Nevertheless, the end of the month does mean it’s time for a recap, and as these are always my favourite posts to write…

What did I read this month?

August was actually a pretty good reading month for me, with 5 books in total!
It dragged to start because my first book was a slow one (always is with classics for me) but then towards the end of the month, my pace really picked up.
Plus!! I didn’t have any DNFs this time around.
& I didn’t spend more than 99p on any of these books. Pros of only reading ebooks :)).

  • Little Women by Louisa May Alcott ★★★★
I really enjoyed this one! It was quite a slow read and definitely very character-driven, but I loved this when I was younger and I loved it this time too! For sure want to read the rest of the series at some point.
& I finally watched the film which was so good! Also not in a mean way because it’s super cute but doesn’t that cover look like it was made on Canva.
  • How To Be Remy Cameron by Julian Winters ★★★★
Another character-driven one & if I’m honest with you, I don’t remember much of what happened. (Apart from Remy constantly being horny but whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
I did really love this one though, and it’s probably one I can see myself rereading in the future. Am excited to read Winter’s debut novel soon!
  • Dear Martin by Nic Stone ★★★★
This book really isn’t talked about enough. So beautifully written, with such an important subject matter too. It wasn’t an easy one to read and I felt so angry and frustrated throughout (especially the court scene oh my goodness) and it’s one I’d really recommend. The only reason it wasn’t 5 stars was because I still had questions and I felt like it could have been a bit longer?
  • Love From A to Z by S.K. Ali ★★★★
Apparently not all books with people on the cover are bad?? I really loved this one. Plus, it also covered some important topics such as racism and Islamophobia (which again, made me so so angry to read). Again, would 100% recommend!
  • What I Like About You by Marisa Kanter ★★★☆☆ (3.5)
First and foremost I loved that this one featured the book community and it was so fun to see a book blogger in a book!! I also really loved the concept and think it was executed really well. The only thing I didn’t love was that Halle was kind of annoying at times? Maybe it’s just me but I still really enjoyed the book so don’t let that put you off!!

Life and blog stuff:

Firstly??
So excitingly??
Say hello to aliterarylatte.com

I finally made the jump to upgrading my site and I’m honestly so excited about it!

It doesn’t get old seeing that .com at the end and even though I’ve kept the same colour scheme and stuff (I feel like that blue/green is my trademark now??), I love the new site layout, pages and graphics! (& I’d love to know what you think too!)

Not many other exciting life things but other general things include:

  • Seeing friends and family more now restrictions have been eased.
  • Having a social media detox which was so refreshing! (you can read more about that here).
  • The weather was so hot for about a week or so and it was so sticky and gross. So that did mean I had no energy for a week but what’s new ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • And that’s about it. Just prepping for back to school really?!
  • Stop picking my nails ✓✓✓ Heck yes. I’m proud of myself I won’t lie.
  • Write my personal statement for uni ✗ Let’s not talk about that one.
  • Grow my Instagram to 1800 followers ✓ I actually took a break from it this month but I did reach this goal which is cool (because I was worried everyone would unfollow me).
  • Edit my EPQ ✓ I’ve only done one edit after the original first draft, but I have sent it over to my supervisor now. I might do a second round but I don’t have much time before I go back to school and it’s due pretty much straight away so we’ll see.
  • Mentally prepare for back to school ✓ This definitely varies because sometimes I do look forward to going back and then other times I’m just nervous. So.
  • Write my personal statement and finish EPQ I actually need to have both of these done by the end of the month. Otherwise… we won’t talk about it. I guess once I’m back to school and actually working in my free periods (if I have them, who knows what my timetable will look like now) I should get this done.
  • Work on my anxiety (back-to-school) A personal goal but something I am a bit nervous about? But I’ve got this, I’m sure I’ll be fine.
  • Keep posting on aliterarylatte.com Am I throwing in the website just because? Yes. I am. But September last year was when I went on a several-month long, unannounced hiatus and I don’t want that to happen again!! I’m not setting a post amount because my blog is my only social media where I really don’t worry about stats at all and I want to keep it that way by not causing unnecessary stress.

And that’s all of the updates for August! A pretty good month overall and I’m pretty happy with how it went – here’s hoping to the same for September!

The number of times I wrote a different month instead of August and had to go back and change it was ridiculous oh my.

How was your August? Have you read any of the books I mentioned and what do you think of the new blog?!

  1. So lovely to read your updates August recap, I have so much to say haha 😂 First of all: when you say ebooks do you mean a kindle because I think I’m going to ask for one for Christmas and I want to know if it’s worth it… I mean reading books for 99p? That sounds worth it to me to be honest 😂 And omg you upgraded!! ❤️ I can imagine me revisiting my site just to see the .com ☺️ One day I’ll upgrade my blogging plan, it would definitely be nice to have a few more options for the website appearances but I’ll definitely save 😅 I love your colour scheme and I’m feeling totally the same about going back (new school too, fun!) there are points when I’m so excited and points where I’m just anxious about it?? I start in three days though so fingers crosses I don’t freak out too much on the Thursday 😣 Lovely Post!! 🙂

    1. Yeah the books are on Kindle from Amazon!! If you’re thinking of switching to ebooks from physical then definitely get the app on your phone or other device to see how you like ebooks. But just generally I do like having a Kindle! It’s quite nice to have a separate device rather than using my iPad which obviously has other distractions. And yes!! The 99p deals (of hyped books too!) is so great haha.

Yes!! I’m constantly typing up aliterarylatte.com honestly. It’s so exciting to see and I also like being able to customise my colours more!
Good luck with your new school! I’m the same – part of me is looking forward to having lessons and seeing friends again but it will be weird in the current circumstances and I am anxious about it. It’ll be fine though and it will be nice to go back after 6 months! Hope it all goes well for you too – you got this!
Thanks for reading and commenting Amber!<3.

  2. Ahhh congrats on the update!!! So so exciting (: I love your color scheme, the mint color is so aesthetic!! I’ve been wanting to read Little Women ever since seeing the movie, but I’m so intimidated! Maybe this fall I just suck it up and finally jump in!

  4. Merry Christmas indeed, since I’m sure I’m going to blink and it’ll be December. What is time??

I just rewatched the 2019 Little Women film after reading the book for the first time earlier this year, and it’s such a lovely story 😀 I agree that it’s quite slow, but the characters are so good.

Congrats on upgrading your site, that’s so exciting!! Good luck with all of your goals in the coming month, and happy reading in September ❤

Oh I loved it! Yeah, it’s a slow read but then it does have all those comforting and cosy vibes which I really enjoyed. Same for the film.
Thanks so much Margaret – hope you have a great September too!

    1. Yeah it definitely is a big book so it was a little slow at times. I did really enjoy it though and it was quite comforting. I’d definitely recommend the film though if you haven’t seen it because it just had all those cosy vibes.
      & Thanks so much!
