Given that lockdown has eased in the UK now I feel like this is a little bit late oops, but I still thought I would jump on the bandwagon! Especially because I’ll still be stuck at home anyway because school’s online and I feel like it’s still not that safe to go anywhere?
Thanks to Ellyn @ AllonsyThornraxx for creating the tag ❤

1. What are you currently reading?

The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper
It’s pretty good so far?
The cover is really pretty and I feel like it will be quite cute.
Am very in the middle with this one so can see it becoming a 3 star.
And I’m also reading Inside Job by Charles H. Ferguson which is about the 2008-2009 financial crisis (again, personal statement things!)
2. What’s your favourite ‘can’t-leave-the-house’ activity?
For me, my go-to at the moment has been listening to podcasts whilst working on my artwork!
I never used to listen to podcasts but I’ve been LOVING them lately!
I mentioned the ones I listen to and love in this post but my two faves are Call Me Candid and Swish & Flick for that Harry Potter nostalgia.
3. A book you’ve been meaning to read forever?
You know I actually don’t have an answer for this one because the books I had been meaning to read forever I read recently!! Point 1 for Emme:))
Becoming by Michelle Obama and the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo (TOTALLY different books I know) had been on my list for the longest time but I read them both this year (May & June for the former) and they are both SO GOOD.
Really highly recommend. Six of Crows has such an amazing cast of characters who I am trash for, and Michelle Obama is so inspiring!
4. An intimidating book on your tbr

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
You probably were not expecting this book as an intimidating one because everyone else puts either The Priory of the Orange Tree or a classic, but I don’t know what it is that’s holding me off from reading this one??
I think it’s a combination of the hype and the fact that it’s an adult book? I really don’t know why I am just so hesitant to read adult books (even though I’m literally 17 so a year away from being an adult myself (crazy!?) but I just am?
Hopefully I’ll get to it at some point though and love it because it sounds so good!
5. Top 3 priority books on your tbr
I really don’t know? Because I am such a mood reader it changes all the time! I drafted this post a while back (although I’ve changed all my answers now) and had three books on there which I now have no interest in reading :).
But at the moment it’s:
- Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales This has actually been on my tbr forever and I just bought the ebook for 99p!! on Amazon but I am so bad at getting to new releases. Soon though because this sounds so!! good!!
- Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo I really loved With The Fire on High so I’m really excited to get to this one!
- Date Me, Bryson Keller This one sounds so cute and has had such good reviews!
6. Recommend a short book

Honestly depends on your definition of short?
A book that felt really short to me and I flew through though was Yes, No, Maybe So by Becky Abertalli (one of my top fave authors for sure) and Aisha Saeed.
It was SO good and Maya & Jamie screamed single at me every few pages :))
For a really short book though (that’s super niche so I doubt many of you will be interested haha) is Political Philosophy: An Introduction by David Miller (again, read this for A-levels but I actually really enjoyed it!)
7. Recommend a long book
I personally don’t love super-long books (300-400 pages is perfect for me) so I’m just going to have to say Harry Potter (books 4-7 are pretty long!)
But like I also don’t want to support JKR so if you haven’t got the books don’t get them.
8. Something you’d love to do whilst stuck at home
Learn Mandarin! I know this is such a lockdown cliche (along with baking and doing Zoom quizzes – neither of which I’ve done) but I want to learn another language! I’m actually half Chinese (don’t know if I’ve mentioned that before) so I want to learn Mandarin.
A-Levels have taken up so much time lately but thankfully my year 12 mocks are over!! so i’d love to start learning another language now! I also want to learn sign language and continue with Spanish (but one at a time haha).
9. What do you plan on reading next?
I feel like I’m just repeating myself here so I’m sorry! But to change it up, I’m also in the mood to reread a book? I am such a mood reader (you can read more about that here) and lately Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson & Simon VS the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Abertalli have been in my mind so I think I’ll reread one of them soon!
And that’s all the questions! I had so much fun doing this tag because I literally haven’t done one in so long! I definitely need to do more.
I’m not going to tag anyone because literally everyone has done this tag already but if you haven’t and want to, feel free to say I tagged you!
Have you read any of the books I’ve mentioned? What books are on your priority tbr?

I haven’t read any of the books you mentioned, except for the HP ones a long time ago, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about Becoming and Red, White & Royal Blue, so I might read those soon.
And learning a new language is always fun, hope you get to do that. I’ve only been doing some French and Norwegian lessons on Duolingo, so I don’t expect to become fluent on them, but it’s fun and it’s a nice start, who knows? 🙂

Ooh hope you like them if you get to them! Becoming was so inspiring!
Yeah I love learning languages, it’s so much fun. And hope learning them goes well – I love duolingo 🙂

Don’t be intimidated by RWRB! It’s an amazing book, so funny and the pages go by flying. You won’t regret reading it!
The top priority books on my TBR I’d say that are These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles and City of Brass trilogy 😊

& I haven’t heard of them but I hope you like them! 🙂

RWRB is such a good one – it seems kinda big and daunting, but once you get into it I’m sure you won’t want to put it down!! (: I’ve been meaning to read The Gravity of Us, but I read the first chapter at the library a few weeks ago and wasn’t super hooked. I’ll have to try it again though, because the premise sounds super interesting!! (:

Yeah I’m sure I’ll love it! The reviews have all been so positive so hopefully it lives up to the hype.
& I know what you mean. I’m continuing to read it but it’s honestly not that gripping. I don’t want to DNF it and it’s quite short but I just don’t care about the characters all that much which is a shame ://

I have been wanting to listen to more podcasts, as now there’s so much time to finally catch up on the ones I started (mostly writing podcasts) 😄 I’m happy to hear that you liked Yes No Maybe So because I’ve heard mixed reviews about this one. I’ve got it waiting to be read on my Kindle! I hope you enjoy your Simon VS reread! 🥰

Oh yeah I’ve definitely enjoyed podcasts more now that I have the time to listen to them – they’re so great and always make me feel so motivated for some reason!
Hope you enjoy Yes, No, Maybe So! I do understand the mixed reviews because objectively it has its flaws, but I just flew through it and had a great reading experience!

I just got into podcasts too! I’m glad you liked Becoming. I just ordered it last week, and I’m hoping to get to it by the end of this month.

wait you’re a fellow Chinese?? I can’t believe I never knew 😭😭 I also really really wanna get better at Mandarin, but I don’t think I have the time. :(( I told myself I would watch more cdramas to improve it, but even that didn’t happen, haha. maybe we can study it together if you want 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 And I totally get being intimidated by Red, White & Royal Blue! The hype for it last year was *real*, and I was so scared that I wasn’t gonna love it. Now that I look back on it, I didn’t enjoy it as much as everyone else, but I do think it’s a fun read that’s accessible for teens. It also presents an ideal version of what 2020 would look like, if you want some escapism 😂

Yes let’s!! I always tell myself I’ll learn more but I’m still a total newbie because my Chinese family in the UK all speak English now.
I do need to read RW&RB and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, even if it’s not as good as the hype says. It seems right up my street and escapism sounds great at the moment! Living vicariously through book characters✌🏼😂

i feel like the hype around red, white and royal blue can make this book very intimidating. i ended up not liking it at all and i always feel weird talking about it because i’m scared people are going to hat me, hahah. i don’t think it should put you off because it’s an adult book, but i will say don’t expect it to be a fast-paced read, because it can be quite dense. i think that’s why i ended up not enjoying it as much: i thought i’d be able to read it in a weekend, but it took me almost two weeks to finish.
i hope you end up loving only mostly devastated! it was one of my favorite books i read this year: it’s super cute and refreshing.
i hope you do get to learn more mandarin this quarantine! i know that i wanted to use this time to learn a new language, but i’ve been procrastinating it endlessly. it’s a lot more challenging than i initially gave it thought for. i think because the only other language i’ve ever learned was when i was a child, i underestimated how hard it actually can be to learn it by yourself.

The hype for RW&RB is certainly scary, but I think it’s so well deserved! Sure I had my problems with the book but overall it’s just such a beautiful book 🙂 I’ve been wanting to learn Mandarin too since I’m half Chinese, it’s one of my biggest goal this quarantine time! I’m not expecting to be a master, but my goal at the very least is to be able to hold a basic conversation 😀

Can’t wait to get to it!! Hopefully I’ll love it – I wouldn’t want to even mention it on my blog if I didn’t haha.
I’m the exact same!! My family all speak English so have never really used it but I’d love to be able to hold a conversation! Good luck with your goal and let’s hope we can both reach that quarantine aim!!
