100 FOLLOWERS Q & A ft. why i started blogging, ex-favourites, chocolate and tropes

Hey guys!! So I was worried that my Q&A would be a flop but you guys delivered with the questions and now I have loads!! I don’t know how long this post will be so without further ado… let’s get into it!

Favourite romcom?

✦ I don’t know if this actually counts as a romcom but if it does, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. It’s honestly the best book-film adaptation. AND. Books 2 and 3 are also getting films (with Feb 2020 being the next one!)

Favourite romance trope?

Enemies to lovers!! I really haven’t read enough books with this trope but I NEED to. And also fake dating!

Favourite place on earth?

✦ This is such a hard one because I’ve been to so many incredible places?? (that’s not meant to sound like a brag haha). My favourite place I’ve been to though would probably be Hong Kong because it was so so beautiful <3.

Favourite era?

✦ Probably the 90s?? I wasn’t actually alive in that era but it looks really fun and the era has some of the best music!

Favourite word?

DISCOMBOBULATED. I don’t know where I saw it – I’m thinking maybe Harry Potter?? – but it’s a great word. It’s just so fun to say.

What is the book that left the biggest mark on you?

✦ Probably Harry Potter because it truly is so incredible how huge the franchise is and how many people are fans of the books (and now movies). I just think it’s so crazy how it unites so many people?!

Who was the person that introduced you to books or inspired your love for reading?

✦ I’m not really sure to be honest? My dad is the reader in our family (along with me) so probably him? I don’t know – I just know I’ve always loved it!

Name the perfect book/chocolate combo!

✦ I honestly don’t know why but this is such a difficult question (and I think we all know who asked this one haha). I’m going to try and pair a few:
– Harry Potter // Cadbury Dairy Milk (because it’s a classic and everyone’s fave)
– This Savage Song // Cadbury peanut butter oreo (because both reading the book and having the chocolate were totally unique and one-off experiences).
– To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before // ferrero rocher because it’s just perfect ;).

Favourite books/series?
What are your top 5 favourite books?

✦ I’ve done a whole blog post on this (although it has since changed after a reread I can’t lie to you), but to keep it short:
This Savage Song, Harry Potter, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda & Caraval. :).

What are your favourite posts to make?

Monthly recaps 100%! I’ve always loved reading them and now I get to write them which is always so fun! Discussions are also really fun for me to write, although I really don’t write enough of them!

Favourite musical artists/albums/songs?

✦ My favourite songs and albums are forever changing but as a musical fan, my current faves are: Dear Evan Hansen (Only Us, Waving Through A Window, Requiem), Legally Blonde (Chip on Your Shoulder, Legally Blonde), Hamilton (We Know, The Reynold’s Pamphlet, The World Was Wide Enough, What Comes Next, I Know Him, Cabinet Battles, Helpless, Non-Stop).
As for artists at the moment I also love Adam Lambert and Lewis Capaldi.

Why did you decide to start a blog?
What inspired you to start blogging?

✦ I’ve always enjoyed writing and have had various Instagram accounts which I’ve loved to run, so I figured the next step up from there was to start a blog! I’d always really enjoyed reading blogs as well so it seemed only natural to start my own?

What’s your favourite genre?

✦ You can probably guess from the favourite books I mentioned but YA contemporary alllll the way.

Do you have any pets?

No! I’ve always wanted fish though, although admittedly they aren’t the most exciting pets!

Where do you live?

✦ I’m from the UK!

What are some things you’ve learned since you started blogging?

✦ That writing posts takes A LOT of time. I’ve probably been writing this one for an hour or so already. Which is crazy. Not only that, there’s also replying to comments, blog hopping & reading posts from those I follow etcetera. Blogging is just super time consuming (although I love it so it’s fine ;).

What are some of your goals now that you’ve hit 100 followers?

✦ I wouldn’t say I have any major goals at the moment, but in general it’s just to keep creating content that I’m proud of and sharing my love for books! In the future though, I’d love to maybe get ARCs? I don’t know how though to be honest as at 16 I’m too young for NetGalley ://

Do you have a favourite place to read, and where is it?

✦ My favourite place to read would probably just be my living room sofa. Not very exciting. I do like reading outside though sometimes, if the weather is nice. Which in the UK is rare.

If you could visit any fictional world, where would you go?

Wizarding World. Hogwarts. Diagon Alley. Hogsmeade. Enough said.

An ex-favourite book of yours you now dislike from rereading it?

✦ Honestly, this has happened to me in August and I’m very sad about it. Isla and The Happily Ever After was amazing when I first read it and I gave it 5 stars but I just reread it and I don’t know… it just felt so cheesy and insta-love and I rolled my eyes. A lot. But yeah.

Favourite fast-food chain?

✦ McDonalds! And Dominos is a close second.

Do you write? If so, tell us about it!

✦ When I was younger, I always wanted to be an author. I’d start book after book after book (never finishing one) but eventually that dream sort of fizzled out? I’d love to be able to write but I’m so bad at thinking of ideas so I’m forever jealous of anyone who can write and create characters and worlds and histories. Amazing.

Do you watch Dr Who/Sherlock/Marvel?

✦ I’m quite ashamed to say that no. I don’t watch any of them ://. I have tried Dr Who and I didn’t like it – I’m not super into spacey stuff… And Sherlock, I don’t like mysteries? And Marvel I have actually watched to be fair and I tend to enjoy them when I watch them, but they just don’t appeal? It might even be DC that I’ve seen? I’m not even sure the difference. Sorry?

Is this your first blog? Did you have a following before?

✦ It’s actually not my first blog! I had another book blog under another name before, but I definitely didn’t have a following! I had it for about a month maybe? Right before my GCSEs and because of that, it fizzled out.

If I was to go to to the bookstore today, what recent read would you say I have to grab?

✦ 100% Cinder by Marisa Meyer – even if you’re not into sci-fi (like me) just give it a go because it was so so so good!

Which would you prefer, only be able to read new books for the rest of your life but never be able to read your favourite book again, or only read your favourite book for the rest of your life?

✦ I don’t really have one favourite book so I guess only read new books?? I think I’ve read my faves enough times to remember them by now haha.

And that’s the questions! Thank you so much to everyone who sent one (or multiple) in and again, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR 100 FOLLOWERS??!!
I also have changed my blog graphics up a little bit because I noticed how pixelled and awful they were so hope you like!

What’s your favourite book(s)? Have you ever fallen out-of-love with a fave? What type of music do you like? And are any of your answers the same as mine?

I’d love to know in the comments below!

Thank you if you asked a question!

  1. Enemies to lovers is such an amazing trope. This was such a fun post to read, congrats on 100 followers!!💜💜💜 Also, I don’t know if this will help but have you tried the website Edelweiss? It’s nearly the same thing as NetGalley and doesn’t have an age requirement, but the website is a little harder to use.

  2. yayyy! tysm for answering my questions, emme!
to all the boys totally counts as a rom-com. it’s definitely one of my favorites too, though it’s kinda hard to narrow down my favorite rom-coms, because i love too many. but i’m so ready for the second movie! the announcement was adorable and i really want february, 2020 to be here already!
fake dating is another one of my favorite tropes (hence my love for peter k and lara jean), but i actually really dislike enemies to lovers, even though it’s a super popular trope!
ahhh, it’s amazing that you chose hong kong as your favorite place! one of my biggest dreams is to go to asia and hong kong is definitely at the top of my list.
the 90s does have some amazing and iconic music! i also just now realized i should’ve asked “favorite decade” instead of “favorite era”, but oh well, i’m glad you were still able to understand me, lol! the 60s are actually my favorite decade, but i do love the 80s (especially after having recently watched stranger things).
discombobulated is such an unique word! i’d never heard it before, so thanks for sharing!
(fishes for pets are my aesthetic. i don’t like animals, but i’d have a fish!)
i haven’t had a bad re-reading experience yet, but i did remember feeling the exact same way about isla and the happily ever after when i first read it. i was so disappointed that the love story happened so quickly, because with the past two stephanie perkins’ books they were so perfectly slow burn.
(and yes mcdonalds is THE BEST food chain. period).
thank you so much for answering, emme!

    1. Ahh you’re welcome!! Thank you for asking me them!
Yes same – I can’t wait – 2020 seems so far away?! I hope it lives up to my expectations (though i’m sure it will)!
Enemies to lovers is one that definitely has to be done well for me to enjoy it – I would say ‘not really that keen on each other’ to lovers is probably more accurate. Enemies can definitely be a bit over the top and kind of toxic if done badly??
Hong Kong is so lovely so I’d highly recommend visiting! I’d love to visit more of Asia- Singapore, Thailand and Japan especially!
90s music is the best music for sure – today’s really doesn’t live up haha. Ooh interesting – the 80s was a close second for me. & stranger things is so good! I love the 80s vibes, especially the fashion!!
yeah me too, i was so disappointed at how whirlwind it was, because i think done a little slower i would have loved it and would have made a lot of the events more realistic haha. it just felt so quick and rushed which was a shame because i LOVED Anna and Lola. am tempted to reread them too but I’m worried I won’t like them either?

      Liked by 1 person

      1. i feel you! i’ve only re-read lola so far, but that is like my favorite romance of all times so it’s kinda obvious that i loved it, but idk how i’d feel about anna if i ever re-read it. sometimes, i think some books are just better untouched, hahah.

  3. I am loving that you answered all of these questions! What a great way to get to know you Emme! Alright so I want to comment on a lot, so I am going to start from the top!

I would love to see Hong Kong, I’m from upstate NY and have traveled within the US and been to Canada, but have never been overseas and would love to travel someday. I think growing up Harry Potter had a huge impact on my life as well. When I was growing up I was always the same age as Harry was when the movies came out and of course I read the books, so it’s kind of like I grew up with that as a huge part of my life. I was pretty obsessed and still am a huge Harry Potter fan.

As for your top 5 favorite books… I’ve been meaning to read This Savage Song forever.. Schwab is dominating my TBR, yet I have yet to read ANY of her books. They all look amazing though! I love looking at bookish lists — if you need post ideas I do a Top 5 Saturday tag. But I also love discussions if the topic is something I am interested in and the person replies to comments– because isn’t the whole point to start a discussion? Interesting to know you’re from the UK because for some reason I thought you were from the US. It’s also interesting to find out all the different reasons us book bloggers wind up starting blogging!

Blogging is time consuming, but it is also a lot of fun, especially once it starts rolling! I have made some really good friends and hope to only make more. I even text some of my blogger friends! For the most part everyone is super nice and helpful.

I wanted to be an author when I was younger and that dream fizzled out because everyone made it sound so hard, but after reading so much I wind up coming up with ideas of my own and I know a lot more about plot structure now. I came up with a whole plot in a dream and have changed it a bit to be less of a dream and more of a book, but I wouldn’t count out being an author. Keep writing and that dream might circle around to become reality one day.

As for ARCs… I would check out my How to Get ARCs post on my blog. It has more resources than just Netgalley and a lot of them you should be able to use without being over 18. I worked very hard on it and there are a ton of resources there that have helped tons of people. Not all of them work for international, but most of them do. It’s pinned at the top of my blog. There are a lot more ways to get ARCs than just Netgalley.

AHH I am so happy for you and hope that you keep blogging and growing in the community!!

    1. Ahh thanks so much for reading & taking the time to leave such a huge comment?!
Hong Kong is absolutely beautiful so I highly recommend visiting! I’ve never been to the US actually but would love to – New York is one of my ideal holiday destinations!

That’s so amazing that you grew up (literally) with HP – it’s so amazing how much of an impact the books have had – and how different everyone’s experience has been. It’s definitely one that stays with you too – you’re definitely never too old for HP and it appeals to all generations which is fantastic.

Ooh yes – I’ve only done one of the Top X memes before and it was super fun so may have to do some more! I’m so bad with sticking to the themes though and it’s always so hard not to repeat the same ones haha.

YES comments on discussions are my fave to read and respond to because everyone’s opinions are always so different! They take so long to write too so it’s always so rewarding to see the post enjoyed! I think the whole point of a discussion is to discuss it!! So although I know it can take time to reply to comments (especially for those bigger bloggers) I think it definitely makes a discussion better if you can talk about it with others, including the blogger who wrote it.

Even though I’m from the UK I tend to assume people are from the US too I don’t know why haha – I’ve never actually seen any book bloggers my age from the UK which is interesting!

I think the fact that it is so time consuming is what can make it so rewarding – talking to others and seeing others enjoy your posts when you’ve spent so much time on it is so amazing to see and makes it all even more worth it! Writing posts especially takes so long – but I really enjoy it so it never feels as long as it actually is!

Yes!! The approach to me saying I wanted to be an author (not by family but by others) was always ‘oh very few make it’, ‘it’s so difficult to get published’ etc and was generally negative which I admit did put me off a little too! It’s so important to encourage creativity and writing though and not discourage it!! Good luck with continuing your WIP!

Thanks so much for your comment and I’ll definitely make sure to check out your post!

  4. Loved getting to know you better! AND YES I’M SO EXCITED FOR THE TATBILB SEQUELS!! Apparently they’ve already finished filming the 3rd movie?! Hahaha thanks for answering my question! It’s always such a hard one for me bc the thought of never being able to re-read Pride & Prejudice hurts my soul but then I also want to read ALL the new Cassie Clare & Jenn Bennett books!

UM ALSO, enemies to lovers & fake dating are 2 of my fave tropes too, they never get old (in my humble opinion 😛) And I really shouldn’t have read this post right before lunch bc now I’m craving chocolate & I have none in the house 😂

Awesome post & congrats again on 100 followers!

    1. Ahh yay!
I’M SO EXCITED I CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG FOR THE RELEASE?! That”s so exciting that they’ve filmed book 3 already – I’m so ready for them and hope that they’re just as good (or better but I doubt it haha) than the first one!
Ah no worries! I feel so bad to admit that I haven’t read Pride & Prejudice or any Jenn Bennett/Cassandra Clare novels… I’ll get to them soon hopefully!! Actually that’s a lie, I just realised I’ve read City of Bones and did enjoy it – apart from the almost incest which was a bit much (and is making me hesitant to continue ://).
YES LOVE THEM – what are your faves from the tropes??
      Thanks so much Ngoc! 🙂

      1. Hahaha all good, there are so many amazing books out there you can’t be expected to have read them all!! 😂 I’m so hesitant to recommend the Shadowhunter books to anyone nowadays simply bc THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM. It’s a bit overwhelming if you haven’t read any before/only read a few 😅

Oooh so obvs my fave enemies to lovers would be Mr Darcy & Lizzie…there are a few others but I feel like I’d be spoiling the books if you haven’t read them 😉 You should do a post on your fave enemies to lovers books!!

        Like

      2. I still haven’t read Pride and Prejudice but I should – it’s like the ultimate enemies to lovers! Maybe someday.
I would so do a post with my recommendations but I have barely read any – despite it being my fave trope! I have to get to more!

  5. Ahhhhhhhh thank you for answering my questions!!

And the difference between Marvel and DC is Stan Lee and trash… Sorry 🙂

In all seriousness Marvel is generally just less depressing. Or depressing but fun. Smiling depression type thing. DC is too dark for my taste but I really enjoyed Wonder Woman.

    Congratulations on 100 followers! 💙❤

  6. AHH CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN YAY! I loved these questions so much and reading your answers! Your book and chocolate combos are perfect and they make me so hungry haha.
I agree about blogging being time consuming, we never imagine it to be SO much until we’re right here, three hours later and still having things to do haha. Still, it’s pretty amazing and fun and I love it 😀

    1. Thanks Marie!!
Ahaha glad you agreed – it took me so long to think of what books to choose, let alone what chocolates to pair them with haha.
Yes! I knew it took a while but I never knew how long?! I’d always see bloggers say that it took them 2 hours or so to write/format a post and I was so sure they were exaggerating but nope! & me too! Definitely so rewarding once it’s done!

  7. Congrats on 100 followers (or 122 😉 )!!

HAHAHAHA the joke is on me for not checking out your blog earlier and joining the Q&A. I really enjoyed reading your answers to them and I totally agree about Cinder!! I’m reading Winter right now and the Lunar Chronicles are overall sooo good (maybe I do have some issues about the worldbuilding but everything else was fantastic)

I’m same with you for Dr. Who/etc/etc but it’s because I am truly terrible at keeping up with pop culture and TV. I am baaaaad. For example, I just learned a few days ago what the 2018 #1 hit pop song in Japan was…and it’s halfway past 2019. (Ok I’m from the US so maybe it’s understandable but I think you get the point)

And yes! Blogging takes so much time! I thought it’d be all about just writing and hitting publish but then navigating WordPress, commenting, tweeting/instagramming etc., and the dreaded formatting all take up a lot of time! I enjoy all of it though. Except for formatting.

I think I’ve rambled enough but let’s say that I had a lot of fun reading your post! ❤

    1. Thank you so much Miri!
Ahh no, nevermind, hopefully I can do more at some point because this was really fun?!
Cinder was incredible and I can’t wait to get to the next book – I can’t lie though, I wish it was still from Cinder’s perspective because THAT CLIFFHANGER?!
I’m so bad with pop culture as well – as a musicals fan, I don’t really listen to the radio so I’m always so behind on music haha. And no worries about knowing the 2018 #1 in Japan – I don’t know that either.
I know!! I knew the writing would take a long time but I didn’t realise how much else there was to it – especially formatting. It takes forever. And I’m never entirely happy with it but hey ho.
Thanks so much for reading & commenting!

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Scarlet still has some of Cinder’s perspective don’t worry!! Half is the continuation of Cinder’s story, the other half Scarlet’s own story and how she merges into the main storyline.

I know!! I almost died from THAT cliffhanger but I didn’t because I immediately checked out the next e-audio and started! Woohoo! I hope you love Scarlet!

  8. Hon, you absolutely nailed every one of my questions – that chocolate one was PERFECT hahaha I’m so proud of you :’) Also, I need to taste that Cadbury peanut butter oreo. How am I only finding out about it now?? (I’m a shame to myself, my family, and my cow)
Blogging is definitely super time consuming (even more if you do ARCs, blog tours, and all of that) but so worth it in the end 🙂 Cinder is an absolute must-read, for sure! I’m so glad I was able to get my hands on the whole series a few years ago, it remains one of my favourites.
Great tag and great answers! Thanks so much for sharing, Emme ❤

Yes definitely – like they say, you get in what you put out ;).
I still have yet to read the whole series but I really need to! Cinder was amazing and such a good surprise.
      Thanks for reading Sophie!💛
