JULY HAS BEEN THE BEST READING MONTH. THE BEST.
I’ve gone from reading 7 books in 6 MONTHS to 7 books in 1 MONTH.
The slump seems to have finally disappeared (cross fingers) and I can finally read again?? My theory is that the slump has broken due to me being finally off of school and done with exams, which does make me a little nervous for the time September rolls around but hey, we can make it work.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s get into my absolute FAVOURITE blog posts to write (and read) – monthly recaps!

• On The Come Up by Angie Thomas ★★★★★ Angie Thomas is a truly a contemporary QUEEN. A whole queen. Her contemporaries are really something else and I just <3<3. Loved. It.
• Eliza and Her Monsters by Frances Zappia ★★★★☆ (4.5) This was so good?? I was pleasantly surprised wow. It was so relatable & Zappia’s characters felt so REAL. Their friendship/relationship was just so cute and precious I just < 3
• Coraline by Neil Gaiman ★★★★☆ This again was such a nice surprise?? I remember really loving (and being terrified of) the film so I was excited to see how this played out in book format and it was so good! The film is also INCREDIBLY accurate (besides from Wiley which was weird) and I really enjoyed it.
• When It’s Real by Erin Watt ★★★☆☆ (3.5) This was a reread and it was a really cute, light contemporary. I do love the fake dating trope so this was right up my alley and I really enjoyed it!

• Cinder by Marisa Meyer ★★★★★ WOW. Sci-fi is usually not my thing but this WAS. It was incredible. From the world building to the characters to the plot. Highly recommend <3<3
• Divergent by Veronica Roth ★★★☆☆ (maybe 3.5?) This was another reread of a book I loved as a little 10 year old reading it for the first time. It was good, and a nice read to emerge yourself in for a little while (the action is very fast paced) but I am definitely noticing more things I didn’t love than I did to start with (one being INSTA-LOVE).
• From Twinkle, with Love by Sandyha Menon ★★★☆☆ (3.5) This was quite a good read. Nice and light hearted, quick, cute & fluffy. I did really enjoy it but not majorly. There were quite a few things I didn’t love but I still think it was a good book.

• Read ✓✓✓ I DID THIS. SO MUCH. You can just revisit the above section for how many books I read because wow?? I am so impressed with myself.
• Write 10 blog posts ✕ Lmao did I really think that was achievable for someone just starting out with blogging. I wrote 5. Including this one. Oops.
I did kind of get in like a slump because of this blog post which I am SO proud of (you can click here if you’d like to read!!) because I felt like the rest of my posts weren’t as good?
• Blog hop ✓
• Buy my stationary for sixth form ✕ Nope. This wasn’t really a goal as such. But I mean now it can be for August because I definitely will??

• Read 4 books I think this should be quite achievable?? I’m going on holiday for 2 weeks so I’ve lowered the number quite a lot compared to this month. But we’ll see?
• Write 5 blog posts I wrote that many in July and that was after like a blogging block?? After writing a post I’m extremely proud of. So this should be good.
• Buy my sixth form stationery This isn’t even a goal really. Having to buy cute stationary?? Done & done.
• Results day & be happy with my results? Not really a goal as such but also it kind of is. Results day for my GCSEs (which are quite important exams in the UK) is on August 22nd (after 3 MONTHS of nervous waiting) and I’m so nervous?? Wish me luck!
• Take lots of photos/videos Kind of a fake goal but also not. I want to take lots of photos whilst I’m away on holiday and I just love taking photos so I’m excited! I’ve also started doing some videos which I’ve edited and saved of just like, family days out which is really fun & also nice to look back on. So want to do this more in August & with friends too.

Taasia @ Librae Paints Pages wrote an awesome list of 50+ fun & diverse YA summer reads which is what I didn’t need (*nervously glances at tbr*) but also exactly what I needed??
Caitlin @ Caitlin Althea wrote a really relatable and important post on why you shouldn’t compare your blogging statistics with others and YES YES YES.
Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall wrote a post on stereotypes/misrepresentation in books of homeschooling which was so interesting to read and also really informative.
Maha @ Sunshine n’ Books asked the question – are we pressured to read certain books in the book community?
Olivia @ Purely Olivia wrote a whole post on the controversy of hyped books.
May @ Forever and Everly wrote about 4 things you shouldn’t feel guilty for as a book blogger. Also May is also hosting the 2019 Third Annual Book Blogger awards which you can now vote for!!

WOOOO for getting out of reading slumps!!! I also felt like July was a great reading month–mostly this was because of the Reading Rush readathon for me. Best of luck hearing back about your results! ❤

Thanks Olivia, you too!

Yes, Emme, your blog is off to such a great start! I can’t wait to see more from it ❤ I too read seven books this month and I'M SO SURPRISED BECAUSE I STARTED SCHOOL THIS MONTH?! I think it's because I may have prioritized reading too much over school, sadly :') I'm glad you loved the post! also, I just read Radio Silence and I finally know what the GCSEs are and what sixth form is hahaha, but I hope your results are amazing!

Aww thanks so much Caitlin!💛
Ahh yes to seven books, I’m so shocked at myself too & that’s why I’m nervous for back to school. I’ll either prioritise reading over school like you said, which I can’t really afford to do… or just not read that much which I don’t want to do either!
Ooh haha, I didn’t know Radio Silence was set in the UK so I think that will make the whole pressure for success in school topic so much more relatable as well. I definitely want to get to that one soon!
And thanks so much! 🙂

I read THUG this month & absolutely LOVED it, I can’t wait to read On the Come Up! Wowsers, it’s been a hot minute since I read the Divergent series! I remember loving the books but when I re-read them I found SO many issues I didn’t recognise the first time around which makes me so sad 😢
Awesome wrap up, Emme, can’t wait to see what blog posts you have lined up for us in August! 😊

I know same, I just randomly decided to reread it because I couldn’t remember any of it and I didn’t love it… I was so tempted to give it a lower rating but I just couldn’t😂
Thanks so much Ngoc, have a good August! 🙂

Wrap up are really fun to write but at the moment I still need to write my July wrap-up. I am clearly behind on… well… everything!!
But well done for getting out of a reading slump!! 7 books is impressive and you had some good ones as well — I agree about Cinder I don’t really like sci-fi but I really enjoyed this series!! And I need to read Angie Thomas’s books so bad!!!
I really like your posts and think they have all been high quality!! 💛 I hope you have a lovely holiday next month and best of luck with results day!! I always get nervous but I hope you get what you want 💗
I think it is so nice that you make little videos– I bet they are so fun to look back on and I always try to take lots of pictures when I go on holiday too!! 😂

Hi ! ^^
This month, I’ve read “Harry Potter and the cursed child”, two French books “Le voyage de nos vies” and “Saskia” and a few pages of “Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban” in Italian. 🙂
Oh, Coraline. The film really terrified me ! X)
Question : what’s the story of “When it’s real” ? The cover is beautiful !
I really love to read your blog. It’s a pleasure !
Bye ! 😉

Hi Amélie! Thanks so much for reading!
Hope you enjoyed the books you read this month – I’ve only read the two Harry Potter books – loved PoA but cursed child wasn’t for me unfortunately.
When It’s Real features the fake relationship trope and it’s basically about this celeb who fakes dates a ‘normal’ girl to preserve his party boy image. & yeah the cover is so pretty!

Yes. 🙂 Cursed child isn’t my favourite books too. It’s PoA.

Wooo for all the amazing books you’ve read! Aaaaah Eliza and Her Monsters melted my heart I adored that book so so much! I’ve been wanting to read When It’s Real for a while now, not gotten round to it yet though
I also have been meaning to read Cinder for literally years, I have the 4 books on my shelf and they’ve been there for at least 2+ years and I just need to pick them up already haha.
Also hi fellow UK blogger here haha, hope your GCSE’s went well Emme ❤

Ahh yay! This was such a fab reading month!
Eliza was so so good I was so pleasantly surprised! If you’re going to read one of them make it Cinder!! It’s was on my tbr for so long and I wish I got to it sooner because it was fantastic! I don’t usually like sci-fi either but this was incredible.
Ahh hi! Haven’t met many other UK bloggers! My GCSEs went really well, thank you for asking!
