If you couldn’t guess by the blog title (A Literary Latte) I’m a bookworm. An avid reader. A bibliophile. A book nerd. You choose. And so what better way to get to know a newbie book blogger than by sharing my favourite books??
*Disclaimer: this is in no particular order – that’s like choosing between your children??

Caraval by Stephanie Garber is AMAZING. So thank you so much to Cait @ PaperFury for frequently shouting it out because the screams of praise were so well deserved?! I’ve read this book twice (though I could happily reread more times but my TBR is um… taller than me. By quite a bit).
Caraval is about a game which has consequences, a game that’s so carefully thought out and performed that it seems real. Which makes it even more thrilling!! The stakes are high, the pace is perfect, the characters are complex (Tella may annoy you every so often, but that’s just her vibe so we let it slide).
I don’t really know what else to say about it in a mini review other than if you’re like me and have a huge bookish backlist then BRING THIS TO THE FOREFRONT AND READ IT. I regret that I did not read it on release and regret even more so that I haven’t got to Legendary and Finale (the final two books in the trilogy) – I’ll get there eventually I promise!!

Next genre. A contemporary FAVOURITE that I will recommend to absolutely everyone!! The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (which now has a film that I NEED to see) is incredible. It has a really important message and is just so so so so good.
All the characters are so ‘fleshy’ and complex, with even minor characters being so well-developed. The book made me laugh and cry and was just amazing?! If you read any of the books on this list PLEASE make it this one. I don’t even
need to say anymore.

Wow. What. A. Book. V.E. SCHWAB IS INCREDIBLE. This book was so so hyped when it was first released and still is shouted about regularly – PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS SHOUTING. The book is focused around August and Kate who are two soft cinnamon rolls even if one of them pretends not to be and both point of views were just *heart eyes*. The world-building for me is the thing that has stood out the most to me with this book because it is truly ICONIC. The insane amount of detail within the book and it’s world, from the monsters to the school to the compounds. Schwab is an incredible writer and I was so so impressed. I would also add the sequel to this book, Our Dark Duet to my list of favourites because it was just as good?? I was so nervous to read it because I was scared that it just wouldn’t measure up but it did. It really did.

Would this even be a post on favourite books if Harry Potter wasn’t included?! This series will always hold a special place in my heart as one of my favourite series EVER. Nothing can even come close to the incredible world-building and characters of the Harry Potter series, and I’ll always love them, even with J.K Rowling making everything and anything canon…

This was the second Becky Abertalli book I read (after Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda – which was so good also!!) and WOW THIS WAS AMAZING. I still have yet to read Leah on the Offbeat (maybe soon because I’m sure I’ll love it) but I so want to because Abertalli’s writing style is just so good?? The books completely live up to the hype and I’m considering rereading them soon (to fully pull me out of the reading slump) because it’s summer (though you couldn’t tell from the rain) and summer = contemporaries.

This whole series (Anna, Lola and Isla which all interlink which was really nice) was INCREDIBLE. WOW. WOW. WOW. I kept seeing these books in and around the blogopshere and so was really keen to see what all the hype was about – and THE BOOKS DELIVERED. To sum up: *heart eyes*. These books have all the feels and a perfect balance of emotional stress because WILL THEY WON’T THEY? and cuteness. Highly recommend.

I believe this was one of the first YA books I read and I LOVED IT. So Fangirl is the book to credit for introducing me to the world of YA! Cather is just so relatable and each and ever character is so well-developed (special mentions to Levi and Reagan <3). Definitely one of my faves and quite a good read for those who are going to college/uni? Maybe – I have no experience there haha.

Two words. Peter. Kavinsky. That’s it. Go read the book. This book is so adorable and just hits you right in the feels you know?! It made me laugh and cry (and I rarely cry at books tbh) and was just so so so cute. The film with Noah Centineo and Lana Condor is also AMAZING and is my absolute favourite film. They also have a second film coming out in 2020 (I can’t wait that long?!) which I’m so excited for so I hope it’s just as good!!

And that’s it for my all-time favourites although there are so many other books that I LOVED that I could add.

Ahh this is a great list! I love The Hate U Give, such a great, powerful read. I’ve been meaning to read Fangirl for AGES now, I really need to get to it at some point haha, it sounds like the kind of book I’d adore, too 🙂

I haven’t read Anna and the French Kiss or Fangirl, but both look super good and I’m glad to see you enjoyed them, because that definitely gives me high hopes for reading them in the future!

I love THUG and This Savage Song so much! THUG was just so important and wonderfully written, and Schwab is 100% one of my favorite authors. I liked To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before a lot when I first read it, but I don’t think I would love it as much if I read it now haha. Great post! ❤
